Firm NewsThe People’s Law SchoolNovember 18, 2011 A free community program supported and led by local attorneys like Josh Branch from Silver & Archibald, LLP, has been rejuvenated since its inception in the 1980s, with the hope of providing basic understanding of some of the principles of law that can affect everyone. Josh is proud to serve as 2011’s Chairman of the Athens Clarke County People’s Law School, a month-long course offered annually to the public. Each weekly session is designed to increase community awareness and education of basic legal issues including topics in products liability, criminal law, family law, wills and estates, tort law and contract law. The People’s Law School is designed to help the public not only know their rights, but hopefully appreciate their rights, such as trial by jury. The People’s Law School is sponsored by the Georgia Civil Justice Foundation and is provided as a means to better understand the Georgia court system and its processes, in addition to the law as a whole in our country. “I attended the first session of the People's Law series out of curiosity,” said Nancy Denson, mayor of Athens. “I was pleasantly surprised to find local attorneys donating their time to take some of the mystery and apprehension out of legal issues for ordinary people. The People’s Law series is truly a public service. Thank you to all who make it possible.” Josh Branch and the attorneys at Silver & Archibald care about the community in which they serve. In addition to giving their focus, time and attention to their clients, they are volunteering during their spare time to inform and educate others about their rights. |
