You’re in a hard spot when you can’t work because of seriously limiting health problems, you haven’t been able to work much, and you don’t have much money.
Your life is full of stress. You could get relief from Supplemental Security Income (SSI) disability benefits.
SSI provides monthly checks and access to Medicaid health care. It’s a benefit program for people in need run by the Social Security Administration (SSA). It can ease your struggle.
But like the other kind of disability benefits, which is for people leaving the workforce because of health problems—Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)—SSI is tough to get.
Social Security makes you prove—almost like you’re proving a case in court—that you deserve SSI benefits.
You have to prove two things to them:
But here’s a little reassurance: You can get a lawyer for SSI disability benefits who makes your case for you—and you pay nothing for your disability lawyer until you win benefits.
Thousands of Georgians have gone to the disability lawyers at Silver & Archibald. Our disability attorneys have won more in benefits for people in Georgia than any other law firm in the state.

SSI disability benefits can help you feel like you’ve finally got some stability and independence.
Call Us Now! Call Us Now!To get Supplemental Security Income benefits, you must have truly limiting health impairments. And you can’t just say so yourself.
You need information from other sources to back up your case, most importantly your doctors.
SSI disability benefits have three core requirements:
You’ll need to provide records and reports from your doctor visits to confirm that your health problems are serious.
No. 2: You Can’t Work Because of Your Health.
You’ll need to show that there isn’t any job you could realistically do (considering your education and skills background) as long as you’ve got these serious medical conditions.
No. 3: You’ll Be Unable to Work for At Least a Year.
Using your medical evidence and doctors’ reports, you’ll need to make it clear that you won’t get well enough to work in less than 12 months.
How do you prove all of this when you can’t just tell Social Security about it? It involves gathering information about your personal history, filling out forms, and sending in medical documents.
Rather than wrestling with this on your own, though, you can work with someone who’s been through this process thousands of times, knows what questions to ask, what information to provide, and how to get the evidence: an experienced lawyer for SSI disability benefits.
Always feel free—because it is free—to call Silver & Archibald and ask us about your situation and how you could get SSI disability help.
The major way that SSI disability benefits are different from SSDI benefits is in your financial situation.
SSI is for people in economic need. How much money or property you have matters to SSI.
The qualifications for SSDI don’t care if a person has plenty in the bank as long as they can’t work and earn money right now.
For SSI, you must show financial records proving two things:
As of 2024, you cannot earn more than $1,971 per month and qualify for SSI as an individual. Couples must earn less than $2,915 per month.
Social Security counts payment for work, money from other benefits (like workers’ compensation, veterans’ disability or long-term disability insurance), and some kinds of support from friends and family as income.
No 2: You Have Limited Financial Resources.
Your savings and ownership of other things of value cannot exceed $2,000 for an individual or $3,000 for a couple.
Investments, land and vehicles count toward the limits. But you don’t have to count everything, including your own home and one vehicle that you rely on for transportation.
In 2024, Social Security set the standard SSI payments you’ll receive at $943 per month for an individual and $1,415 for a couple that qualifies. Those payment amounts can be reduced by other sources of income you have.
Another part of SSI is that families who qualify financially and have children with disabilities can get benefits for children.
Having a source of support when you’ve been handed the rough circumstances of illness that keeps you from working goes a long way toward protecting your peace of mind and sense of dignity.
The Silver & Archibald lawyers for SSI disability benefits can help you get there.
Legal cases involving your health struggles are highly personal matters. When you’re looking for help, you want someone who treats you with the personal care, respect, and dignity this moment requires.
